Tom White Opposition Research Contest!

Surprise! It's official! Tom White--that divisive Democrat denizen of the Nebraska Legislature-is officially a candidate for Nebraska's Second Congressional District.

As part of making the obvious known, White was required to file a financial disclosure with the Clerk of the House.

His financial disclosure can be found here.

On its face, the financial report is very, very, very intriguing in oh so many ways. We would love to assign this to an opposition researcher, but we don't have one. The Nebraska Republican Party operates on a pretty lean budget--we have limited staff and don't have the Washington Union Bosses or President Obama to loan us staff to use at our disposal. So we thought we would be innovative and try crowdsourcing this project, i.e., "the process by which the power of the many can be leveraged to accomplish feats that were once the province of the specialized few."

Are you game?

Take a look at Democrat (yes, contrary to his announcement speech, he's a Democrat) White's financial disclosure and tell us what you find. See if there's anything interesting in it that needs to be further examined or pointed out to 2nd District voters. Example: certainly Senator White filed the appropriate ethics disclosures in the event he voted on a measure before the Nebraska Legislature that somehow impacted the multitude of investments he has. Has he pulled a "Charlie Rangel" and failed to list anything?

So have at it--the entire civilized world with internet access has now been deputized by the NEGOP. Review and analyze the report, or any other publicly-available information that's available on Senator White. Tell us what you find by November 1, 2009, and e-mail it to me at mfahleson@gmail.com

The entry that the NEGOP believes provides Nebraska voters with the most useful information will win two (2) tickets to the November 21, 2009, Nebraska football game against K-State.

Good luck!

  1. Good grief, Mark!

Is THAT your best shot? Is the Nebraska Republican Party so bad off that it has to stoop to this level? And here you guys were all PO'd when the DSCC hired Lisa Hannah to stalk Mike Johanns with a video camera last year, trying to capture a "Macaca" moment.

I guess this is tit-for-tat politics. I thought I was the one that everyone in both parties thought was a troublemaker. I catch hell from the Ds on the New Nebraska Network, the Rs on Leavenworth Street, and most of the hierarchy in the NDP just wish I had never been born. Welcome to the club!

  2. This is garbage. Mark, are you kidding me on this? I thought the Republican party of NE was better than this.

    This is pathetic.

  3. Slimeball! Is this the ethics and method of operating today. How do you think we will believe the Republicans will do the RIGHT thing when your actions show otherwise.

  4. Hello,

I am reading this, and the 'dirt' part from an article posted and/or written by 'that station' is crap. Anything found can be good/indifferent/bad.

I'm glad that I can read the orginal post for myself.

  5. This should be a proud time to be a Republican with all of the mess in Washington. Instead, twice in the past several weeks, I have been embarrassed to be a part of this party (ie. learning that a college student who represented the state on a national level had several run-ins with the law in the past year due to mental illness) & now this. We need to be gathering the best and the brightest and talking about issues. God knows Obama has given us plenty of fodder. I commend Lee Terry for his dignified response, but I think you are completely off-track here Mark and need to work on researching our own leadership before we go offering football tickets to anyone and everyone.

  7. I think this is pretty funny, and awful crafty. My only disappointment is that I have no insight to offer as my submission for the contest.

  8. Tom,

Please understand this is coming from a long time republican voter... Are you an idiot? At this time that democrats have successfully shown the Republican party to consist of a bunch of out of touch old white guys you pop up with a bonehead play like this. Great you received some publicity but the publicity that this party needs is new ideas and solutions not dumb Nixon error stunts. Grow up, re-tract the contest, and apologize for your lack of judgement.

  9. Tom White is a slob. Look at all of that stuff he crossed out! Can we trust somebody so sloppy to work effectively on our behalf in Congress? Should Nebraskans put our faith in a man who is so lazy he can't even be bothered to run over to Office Depot and grab a bottle of Liquid Paper before submitting these forms?

Tom White's shoddy work ethic proves he is not a real Nebraskan. Vote against Tom White in 2010!
